Damien Hirst exhibition to open at Phillips curated by Connor Hirst

The end of civilisation according to Damien Hirst In an exhibition curated by his son Connor The exhibition, open until 2 September, is entitled 'Civilisation Paintings' and consists of 32 colourful large canvases created in 2024. The paintings depict cityscapes or landscape views with fields of flowers and trees. To these representations the artist superimposes patches of colour, grids of dots vaguely reminiscent of his "Spot Paintings", patches caused by paint thrown randomly onto the canvas. The chaos that arises from this set of elements is, according to Damien Hirst, a possible hopeful response to the complexity of contemporary civilisation. The investigation begun harks back somewhat to Pollock's Action Painting and his 'Drip Painting' technique. The exhibition at Phillips is curated by the artist's 29-year-old son Connor Hirst and is presented with the twinning of Damien Hirst's two galleries: White Cube and Gagosian.
