Eugene Shadko

Borisov 1987

Eugene Shadko's paintings focus with captivating intensity on the human figure in youth.

His pictures not only reflect the external coolness of the young people, but also penetrate into their inner fragility. Representing this duality gives his works a depth that encourages the viewer to look beyond the surface and explore the complexity of youth. He succeeds in capturing moments of freedom and lightheartedness that are at the same time permeated by a fragile emotionality.

The subtle combination of figuration and abstraction characterizes his work, with his source often lying in photographs he took himself. But here the shot merges with his vision, as the bright flash he uses imbues the images with modern aesthetics. The protagonists of his works are torn from their individual stories and placed in a nameless sphere. Here their isolation and their vulnerability are accentuated, while at the same time they are in the spotlight of an imaginary stage. Radiant play of colors against a dark background, a haunting texture, all of this gives Shadko's images a touch of the unreal. A melancholy that captivates, sometimes disturbs - a fascinating interplay.

The foliage is linked to the concept of youth. Similar to the change in leaves in autumn, youth also goes through a phase of change. The transience of autumn foliage serves as a reminder that youth is a temporary stage in life. Both youth and foliage encourage us to embrace change as a natural and fascinating aspect of life.
